Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce dependence on foreign goods, cut fuel consumption and avoid unnecessary foreign travel amid the ongoing West Asia crisis and global economic uncertainty. Referring to the growing trend of destination weddings abroad, Modi said Indians should choose domestic locations for vacations and weddings to reduce foreign exchange outflow and promote local tourism. He suggested venues like the Statue of Unity for weddings and stressed the importance of supporting local businesses and products under the “Vocal for Local” initiative. The Prime Minister also appealed to people to use public transport, metros, electric buses and carpooling to conserve fuel. He encouraged virtual meetings and work-from-home practices in both government and private sectors. Modi also advised citizens to postpone gold purchases and contribute collectively towards reducing pressure on national resources during the global crisis.
